Finally i have a Blog!

I’m going to tell you just a bit of my story, and the reason why i have decided to create my own blog.
I have an interest for food since i was very young and more recently for healthy food. Since i went to the University i stopped eating red meat, and a few years later white meat too, so i’ve become a Pescetarian.

After my second daughter’s birth, i started to notice that my body had a bad reaction to dairy products, and when i decided to stop eating them, the problems disappeared. I was lactose intolerant for years, but i didn’t know how to “hear” what my body was trying to tell me.

Early this year my world just collapsed when my youngest daughter (7 years old) was diagnosed with cancer, Acute Linfoblastic Leukemia (ALL), type B. I started to think about everything i could have done wrong, or the things i should have avoided for her to eat, the mistakes i made, and why?? My head was about to explode with so much thoughts and unexplainable emotions. I believe that everything happens for a reason, but a child with cancer, specially my daughter, is so hard to accept. But i believe that everything is going to be ok, and she will be cured!

I don’t believe and can’t accept that Chemotherapy is the only way to cure a cancer, in my perspective the cure is way beyond chemo! For me, healthy eating is a very powerful way to cure (no refined sugars, no hydrogenated fat, no animal protein, no refined flours). I believe that an emotional cure is also a powerful way to the cure, and a healthy mind too! For a child is difficult sometimes to understand this, but it’s not impossible. And it’s very hard for a child to accept new flavors, to stop eating sugar, to start eating more vegetables, it’s a long way to go through and giving up is not even an option!

All of this has taken me into a journey, all about healthy food and healthy choices, research, study, dedication, lots of learning. Here in Portugal there’s a specialist in healthy food, that is my mentor, my guide, and he’s been through a similar situation of a daughter with cancer. For me, he’s the major specialist in healthy food in Portugal, and he’s been teaching to everyone that wants to learn how to create a “pharmacy” in the kitchen. I’ve learned a lot and still.

Today i have full consciousness about the amount of sugar that we give to our children everyday to eat. It starts at breakfast with the processed cereals with huge amounts of sugar, the cow milk, all wrong. If they don’t take the lunch from home to the school, what kind of food does the school provides for them?… the afternoon snacks most of the times are cookies, yoghurts, packed juices, all wrong once again. sometimes at home for dinner is easier to make something like fast food, some sausages or nuggets, so many mistakes, i know, i’ve made all of them. And we never think about the amount of sugar that the children are eating every single day, all day long…

Truthfully is not that hard to prepare something healthier for them to eat, some fruit, some whole grain cereals or whole grain bread, some almond butter, vegetable milk, there are so may healthy options. We can make healthy cereal bars at home, so that they can take to school and have a healthy afternoon snack. But this is not only for our children, it is just the same for us adults! I see that so many people treat their own body like garbage, they don’t think that we are what we eat, and what we become in the future is the product of the choices we make today, and many chronic diseases are totally developed by us.

Human behavior has always fascinated me, and still, and intrigues me a lot too. Why do we eat to develop diseases? There are tons of informations (accurate) in our days, so that we can understand and we can see that a plant based nutrition or a healthy eating is the way to prevent so many diseases. We know the 80% of chronic diseases could be avoided (through lifestyle, healthy eating, exercise, non smoke), we know that genetics have just 5 to 10% of impact in the development of these diseases.

The major reason why i created this blog is to provide some help in a healthy kitchen, with healthy recipes, so that i can contribute to promote health for everybody that wants to learn and for your children that needs healthy food the most. I’m going to teach you delicious food! I’ll give you guidelines and step by step easy recipes that can make a difference in your health. So, no sugar, no hydrogenated fats, no processed flours, no animal protein, just nature. I truthfully hope that i can help people with cancer and other chronic diseases to eat properly and have a healthier life 💖
